The "Friday 1pm" Problem
In the UK corporate world, 1pm on a Friday is a prime slot for "All Hands", "Town Halls", or "Team Lunches".
For Muslims, this is usually the exact time of Jummah (Friday Congregational Prayer). Jummah is mandatory for men and highly significant for women. It cannot be "made up" later like other prayers.
The Impact: If you book a recurring meeting at 1pm Friday, you are forcing staff to either:
- Miss a mandatory religious duty (Guilt/Sin).
- Miss the team update (Career Exclusion).
The "Winter Maghrib" Surprise
In Summer, prayer times are spaced out. But in UK Winter (Dec/Jan), the sun sets as early as 3:50pm.
This means the Maghrib prayer falls right in the middle of the afternoon "Power Hour". A meeting booked from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in December is almost guaranteed to clash.
The "Buffer" Rule
Prayer takes 10 minutes. But preparation (Wudu/Washing) takes 5 minutes. Always allow a 15-minute buffer when looking at these "Red Zones". Striving for zero-clash scheduling is the hallmark of an inclusive manager.
